Water floral and extracted from plants
In declaration INCI of the cosmetic products, one can often read names ending in Aqua, Water, Distillat or Extract. Some examples: Melaleuca Alternifolia Aqua (for the water of tree with the), Rosa Damascena Toilets (for the water of pink), Anthemis Nobilis Distillate (for the water of camomile), Salvia Officinalis Leaf Extract (for the sage extract). These terms can qualify two kinds of vegetable ingredients. On the one hand the group of those ending in Aqua, Toilets or Distillate. Other, those finishing by Extract. What differentiates them?

Aqua, Toilets, Distillate.
The ingredients ending in these suffixes are floral water (or medicated water of plants). The medicated water is a derivative of distillation to the steam of plants in order to obtain essential oils. Essential oil is extracted and involved upwards by the steam, oil and water then dissociating at the time from cooling. Essential oil is collected and there remains water: medicated water.

Extracts of plants
The extracts of plants play a fundamental role in natural beauty care, which makes say to some which they are the heart of the product. Their manufacture is a whole art and a know-how inherited medicine by the plants. The extracts are rich in agents active and employed in almost all the product range of care for the body (of the creams to the shampoos).
In the companies with anthroposophic orientation “traditional”, like Weleda and Wala, their manufacture is a “discipline-key”. But even the younger manufacturers like Logona, Sanoflore, Florame made of their extract-house a symbol characteristic of their mark. Logona, for example, developed its own method of extraction: a mixture of ethanol, water and glycerin circulating through the fragments of plants during six to eight hours. |
