The care for baby Many parents are insécurisés vis-a-vis the very wide offer of products for babies. They want all that there is best for their child, but how to know which are the best produced? The multitude of creams, oils or shampoos could made believe that, in the interest of the baby, it should “be treated” with heaps of products. Let us not let any we tell.
The best care for baby is simplest The skin of the infant is marvelously soft and of this very significant fact. It takes him approximately a year to develop completely and be able to protect itself from the external influences. And it is precisely because the skin of the baby is so soft and so permeable that its natural development should be the least possible blocked.
• The skin of a baby has a neutral pH during the first weeks: it thus is not protected yet by the protective acid film which puts the cells at the shelter of the harmful external influences, from the bacteria and mushrooms. It is necessary approximately 6 weeks so that the pH becomes acid and that the skin can be better defended. • The sébacées glands which form a protective lipidic film on the skin do not function yet very well. It is the absence of this film which explains besides why the babies feel so good. • The skin is very permeable because the cells of the skin are not yet sufficiently welded the ones with the others. |
Program care for the whole small It is preferable to let the skin of the infant develop with his rate/rhythm. Each cosmetic product represents to some extent an interference in its very subtle and fragile metabolism.
• An exaggerated hygiene leads to the drying of the skin and can even cause irritations. • As long as the baby has very little hair, one can give up without regrets the shampoo, or at least choose a product with the washing substances (surface-active) very soft. • To pass from oil or cream only on the dry parts of the skin. • The whole small need fresh air but they never should be exposed in full sun, and the experts disadvise the solar products. It is preferable to equip the baby with a full clothing which hides its members well, and to put it at the shade. • If the weather is cold, to pass on the face and the ears a balsam or a fatty protective cream. A too light cream (containing much water) would drain the skin and would not offer to him a sufficient protection. |

| The cosmetic natural and bio for the babies and toddlers: what it is necessary to take into account The products which are certified on the basis of BDIH, specifications Ecocert or Nature & Progrès have all the advantage of not containing mineral oils or other problematic substances the such EDTA or conservatives of synthesis like formaldehyde liberators. Since there exist nevertheless differences among the certified products, here my criteria for care baby and children of quality:
- Truly natural components, not denatured chemically, like authentic plant oils, butters and extracts of plants should play the first part.
- Preferably components of quality, resulting from the organic farming.
- When it is essential to modify the natural components chemically, for the shampoos by ex, the softest substances should be employed.
- With regard to the products like the cleaning creams or milks, the part of chemically modified natural components should be limited to a minimum.
- The less there is chemistry of synthesis, the better it is with the final one.

| Products for baby and toddlers In what follows, I will present to you various types of products as example. All the products are certified as natural cosmetics and a bio. As the examples show it, there exist nevertheless notable differences. Especially with regard to basic quality, means of conservations and bio quality. |
I. the notation of the products in detail: Washing products /shampooings
The washing products, like the shampoos, are made up at the base of water and washing substances, the surface-active ones. Therefore quality, - C' is to be said softness, of these washing bases plays a central role. There exist significant differences between the different surface-active ones, even in natural cosmetic and bio

Base/active agents |
| “Its vegetable base 100% enriched in honey, out of sweet almond oil…” such arises the product on the site of www.natiloo.com. And if one looked at more closely? A base washing soft containing sugar dominates the mixture of the surface-active ones. But another washing base, (the cocamidopropylbetaine) which contains a part resulting from petrochemistry is also found in the product. This washing base is soft, but should not have its place in natural cosmetic and bio. But the schedule of conditions Ecocert authorizes the use of this component. The third surface-active one (Cocoamphoacetate Sodium) is also soft but it is about surface-active chemical. Put aside washing water and the three bases, the product contains 13 components. Among them, two components of synthesis (conservatives). Oil (an esterified oil) is found in 13th position of list INCI, it is thus present in minor amount. Honey is the only component authentically natural. With that two floral water with their quantity of high water is added. |
Conservation |
| Use of two conservatives, the sorbate of potassium and acid dehydroacetic. |
 with |
Bio quality |
| Natural quality and bio refer mainly to two floral water, which can be entered in integrality as a component bio - and that in spite of their water high rate. Honey bio is still found after the two conservatives. |

Base/active agents |
| The washing base principal is surface-active with a rather high potential of irritation. The second surface-active one is relatively soft, but should not be used in cosmetic natural and bio, because it contains parts resulting from petrochemistry. The third surface-active one is containing sugar. At the time of the presentation of the product on www.bebe-au-naturel.com one speaks for example about “washing base soft coconut, palm and sunflower”. It is not completely right. A washing base as ammonium lauryl sulfate is containing natural components, but is dissociated with a potential of irritation definitely higher than of other bases washing like the acylglutamates, considered as very soft. All the surface-active ones which results at the base from natural components are not automatically soft… The extract of calendula and the vegetable glycerin are employed as active matters. The almond oil is a chemically modified plant oil. |
Conservation |
| The product contains three conservatives of synthesis (potassium sorbate, benzoate of sodium and acid dehydroacetic). |
Bio quality |
| 11,06%, as indicates it the www.natiloo.com site, result from the organic farming. That relates to mainly the extract of calendula (which is calculated by including the rate of water). With that the perfumes are added. |

II. The notation of the products in detail: Fresh water
By looking at the prices for a fresh water, it is legitimate to raise questions. A water is made up… of water. That is also seen on list INCI, because the majority of the formulas start with `Aqua', it is thus of completely banal water. Some fresh water contains at least a small portion of oil or some agents hydrating…

Of what does consist exactly a floral water?
Floral water (medicated water) is obtained during the distillation of essential oils. In this process, the vapor becomes water. The essential oil which survives is recovered, the water which remainder becomes the medicated water. This floral water contains a tiny part of essential oils, generally not more than 0,5%. That wants to say that floral water is made up to water 99,5%. If this floral water is entered completely like component bio, the bio part is practically primarily based on water. For the reference frame Ecocert Ecocert/Cosmebio this floral water is entered. Other schedules of conditions do not practice this calculation. |

III. The notation of the products in detail: Balsams & creams
The following products are creams of protection and creams of care for baby. The skin of baby particularly needs protection for the zone of the exchanges or vis-a-vis the great cold. The zone of the exchanges is very requested, therefore it would be necessary to primarily employ soft products for cleaning. The skin of baby being very delicate and still very permeable, it would be necessary to take care that natural substances of quality are employed, like authentic plant oils. • In addition: useless to apply the creams all the time or daily, even of the creams of quality! It is enough to apply them to the dry parts of the skin or to use them occasionally to reinforce the effects of a light massage.

| 9 of the first 13 components of this cream are components authentically natural. It is about the soya oil, of beeswax, the oil of jojoba and olive, of the shea butter, the almond oil, the extract cocoa butter of calendula and camomile. With that is added the hydrating vegetable glycerin. This cream is the example of what the cosmetic natural and bio should represent: a care of the skin, from which the effectiveness is directly resulting from the force of nature in its entirety with its “cocktail of properties”; extracts of vitamins, minerals and the vegetable components secondary, if important. |

| „. .au butter of shea tree and with honey bio “is read on this product. All that can be known as of positive about this product summarizes with that. But which importance has this positive aspect? According to the manufacturer, the rate bio is of 10%. It is composed of these two ingredients: butter shea tree and honey. And the 90% remainders? Put aside water, it acts mainly of two oils of synthesis, first of all of Isopropyl Palmitate, a cheap oil from which a part usually is resulting from petrochemistry. This component does not have its natural place in cosmetic and bio and other certifications do not authorize its use. It nevertheless is authorized with Ecocert certification. The second oil of synthesis (Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride) can be described as better, but it is not either an authentic plant oil. One will in addition note vegetable glycerin and a little honey. All the other components are in a general way of the auxiliary substances like emulsifiers, substances plug, stabilizing agents or complexants. And if one compared this product with the normal cream of day of this same manufacturer, one would realize that few elements in fact were modified. Only the two components bio were changed: butter shea tree and honey in the place of the aloe will vera and the oil of argan. The products are if not practically identical. Does that represent a cost relatively low during manufacture, but is what as many oils of synthesis is really adapted to the sensitive skin, still largely permeable of the babies? |
Conservation |
| The product contains the benzylic conservative alcohol. |
Bio quality |
| With the rate of 10%, the share bio is at the threshold low, it is the strict minimum required to be able to claim with a certification bio. |
